HOW BAJAMATE BEGAN
It began with a problem the pool industry had learned to accept.
When Randy’s pool was built, co-owner and pool builder Scott explained why larger umbrella sleeves were not installed in Baja shelves: the additional leverage could damage or crack the surrounding pebble finish.
Instead of accepting a smaller umbrella and limited shade, Randy and Scott began looking at the problem differently. The answer was not simply a larger sleeve. It was a new adapter system that could fit into the existing pool sleeve while creating a stronger, more versatile foundation above it.
That idea became the original BajaMate adapter.
From there, the system continued to evolve. The adapter led to the modular in-pool table, followed by a dedicated basketball-hoop sleeve. Development has now expanded into bar-top seating and additional accessories designed around the same adaptable foundation.
What began as a solution for one pool has become a patented platform for transforming underused Baja shelves into functional spaces for shade, dining, recreation, and gathering. It is a simple idea in hindsight—but one the industry had overlooked.
